About NSS – Lokepara Mahavidyalaya

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides an opportunity for the students of Lokepara Mahavidyalaya to participate actively in various community service activities and social welfare programmes. The main aim of NSS is to develop the personality of students through community service and to provide them with practical experience in serving society.

NSS at Lokepara Mahavidyalaya is a noble initiative in academic and social expansion. It promotes the spirit of voluntary work among students and teachers and strengthens the bond between the college and the community. It teaches students how knowledge can be applied in real-life situations for the betterment of society and encourages them to become responsible citizens.

Brief History of NSS of Lokepara Mahavidyalaya

The National Service Scheme at Lokepara Mahavidyalaya was introduced with the objective of promoting national consciousness, social responsibility, discipline, and leadership among students. Since its inception, a large number of students have actively participated as NSS volunteers in various community development programmes.

At present, the NSS wing of the college consists of only one unit. The unit is guided by a dedicated Programme Officer who is a faculty member of the institution and works sincerely to instill among students the spirit of selfless service and social commitment.

The NSS unit can enroll up to 100 student volunteers (both boys and girls). The volunteers actively participate in various social and community-based activities within and outside the college campus under the guidance of the Programme Officer. The college has an NSS Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of the Principal, who acts as the Principal Secretary and provides overall direction and support.

The unit adopts a nearby village where volunteers conduct regular activities and organize special camps. NSS volunteers work to improve living conditions in rural areas through literacy drives, health awareness programmes, blood donation camps, environmental campaigns, cultural activities, and cleanliness drives. They also observe important national and international days with enthusiasm.
